Fresh Generation [Invite]

From the success of Woon Woon Pek Beehoon, a newly opened Fresh Generation conveniently located just 3-5 minutes walk away from Beauty World MRT station at the Bukit Timah Food centre. Reece Wong, one of the young friendly gentleman that co-owns this stall explained that Woon Woon Pek has been doing very well at Changi Village hawker centre and they have decided to expand. Instead of offering the same menu, white bee hoon with seafood, they decided to venture and offer seafood, but this time with hand-made noodles.

The pricing here ranges from $6-28 for one serving, depending on the type of seafood you choose. Most of the ingredients are sourced from the Bukit Timah wet market, just one floor below the hawker centre, so you’re guaranteed freshness! For those who can’t decide, just go with the Signature seafood platter, it’s got all the ingredients.

Each dish is cooked upon order and you can watch them whip up the delicious broths. I’ve noticed some other shops use the same broth for every dish, irregardless of the seafood choice, hence I tend to shun those stalls. Fresh Generation ensures that for each dish, with different seafood choices, the soup will taste different!

Ta-da here’s what the chef has cooked up for your hungry tummies! Great for any cold, rainy day!

  1. Signature Seafood Platter 招牌海鲜拼盘 (S$28/ 3pax) + noodle 手工面 (S$1)

Loaded with fresh prawns, lobster balls, clams, threadfin fish, and crayfish. The broth here has a strong aroma of the crayfish and the clams. It carries a light bodied flavour of sweetness. The crayfish meat is fresh and can be easily peeled out of the shell.

The hand-made noodles absorbed the flavour of the soup very well, making the noodles irresistibly tasty when eaten on it’s own. The portion here is definitely enough for 2-3pax and could serve as a family meal! I really enjoyed the soup in this seafood mixture.

2. Lobster Seafood Soup 龙虾海鲜汤 (S$28/1pax, S$58/ 3pax

The lobster seafood food had a more distinct sweetness in comparison to the Signature seafood, mainly due to the lobster!  The colour of the soup has a more vibrant orange tinge. For the indecisive lobster foodie, just got for this! Lobster fans would certainly be happy with this. The hand-made noodles carries a light taste of the lobster, but sufficient enough for your brain to process that this taste is indeed from the lobster.

For the freshness served this bowl, the price justifies it! The prawns and lobster balls helped to portion out the ingredients substantially, rather that just having the lobster and and hand-made noodles.

3. Scallop Seafood Soup 扇贝海鲜汤 (S$10/ 1pax, S$28/ 3pax)

This was my favourite soup! It was the sweetest amongst all due to the scallops. I am personally not a fan of scallops, but I loved the flavour of the soup. I would consider this as a light gourmet soup that warms my heart! If you’re wondering is it just merely because they use MSG? The answer is no, only a very small amount of MSG is used, but rather most of the flavours come from natural ingredients in the soup.

Overall : Fresh Generation delivers the same way Woon Woon Pek Beehoon does, with high quality fresh seafood at hawker centres. They keep an eye out for low-cost rental locations to ensure reasonable prices for their dishes. If you’re wondering if this is worth the travel to Bukit Timah, it is! Except for mondays, when they are closed!
